Lucky Penny*

Got a lucky penny in my hand,

Warm with hope and sweat,

Found in the grass on a sunny day,

And I haven’t spent it yet,

Wonder if I should cash it in,

For a real four leafed clover,

I hear that money can’t buy love,

And summertime is over,

But it holds the laughter of a time,

With soft-ball in the park,

When fires on the river bed,

Flew red and yellow sparks,

So I put it safely in my pocket,

Where it brushes against my thigh,

Smiling when I look at it now and then,

With winter’s nostalgic sigh.
