A New Day Dawning

The midnight hour was cold and long,

Exit the actors from the stage,

‘Round my head, that lonely song,

On the ink wells of my page,

I can feel the distance, as you breathe,

My unknown, unfound love,

I gaze and I hope, a silent plea,

To the watching stars above,

A fog descending, in the creeping dawn,

Finds my sleepless bed,

Sighing gently, for days long gone,

And our story still unread,

The blank sheets spread before my eyes,

Will tell your secret tale,

In this predawn light my pen hand cries,

To lift this mortal veil.
