The Mask

Funny how the little things hurt so much,

Even though I do not bleed,

Cuts me inside where I cannot touch,

Between the lines you read,

Somehow I find the will to smile,

Lying lightly when you ask,

Though the words bring sour bile,

It’s easier to wear the mask.
