Underneath It All

Phosphorescent secrets,

Glowing will-o-the-whisps,

Alighting in your eyes,

Luring me deeper,

Into the wood,

 

 

Worn and winding footpaths,

Carved in dense underbrush,

Of unfathomable wants,

Hooded in your mask,

Of olive skin,

 

 

Worn like a slick disguise,

That smile like the sun,

Warm despite the chill,

Of those cold layers,

Beneath it,

 

 

And slowly I am learning,

How to keep my footing,

On the slick ice floes,

Around that heart,

You covet,
