Perspective

Broken hearts?

Don’t make me laugh

A soul cannot break unless you refuse to bend

Love is only a whisper in the roaring river of possability

You say you jumped from that cliff?

Did you think you could fly

On the wind of weightless words?

Did you never learn the topography of another

Requires four wheel drive to navigate?

Were you just going to stroll in here

Plant a flag that says “MINE” because

Nobody else had done so?

A lack of face reflected in my heart

So you thought I needed someone there

Like I would not be able to complete myself

As if I needed the crutch of sympathy

Read my poetry so now you’ve got me figured?

So the fire of my spirit didn’t burn you?

Doesn’t mean you’re fire proof

No, hearts cannot be broken

One person cannot know another

I’ve had friends for years who don’t know the color of my iris

But maybe a friend is what you need

A sharp poke in the ego and a bit of perspective

Someone to help you drink a few

Ruminate on those lessons other woman have taught you

I’ll volunteer to be a partner in your crime

Sit in the shade of you and listen to your rustling

Just don’t play those games of the subtle and the sly

Like I won’t hear what you mean

When you don’t say what you mean

Because I am a wizard of page and pen

I see layers beneath layers while you stand there blind

Hearts cannot be broken

They can be given to the wrong person

Who abuses it, disregards it’s worth, throws it away

Or someone who keeps it in a secret place

Coveting that beautiful prize

Withholding the chance for love with another

In the echos of their smile

But you can never break a heart

Because it is a muscle

That my be torn and bruised

Aching with intensity

Sundered or bleeding

But never

Ever

Broken

    1. thanx Eliza, I’m cursed/blessed to write everything that comes to mind. Not all of my poetry or writing is for others, but still I post it. This is one that is not that clear out of context…
